Kensington Orbit Fusion Wireless Trackball (K72363WW) Mouse is now my favorite trackball mouse, taking the title from the old Logitech TrackMan Optical Wireless (discontinued and sells for 2 or 3 times the original price. There's a big but (no pun intended) coming. The left-click button actually has two separate contact points and produces a disconcerting double click. Only one click is actually registered, or sometimes none, but never two actual clicks, just the sound of two.
To fix this, I had to disassemble the mouse and trim the skinnier plastic piece on the left click button so it no longer engages the other contact point. In all, it took about 30 minutes and required a y head screwdriver to take off the screws, which are located under the padding strips. Don't remove the sticker, nothing under there to help you. Software is fine, but there aren't extra buttons on this mouse (left, right, middle, back, forward, DPI).
So I don't make full use of it, but being able to back up the settings I do have to Google drive is clutch. After trimming the piece on the left click button, the double-clicking is gone, and I love Love LOVE this trackball. For reference, in addition to the old TrackMan(9/10), in the past, I've also used the telecom deft (7/10), Kensington orbit mobile (7.5/10), and recently I tried the new Logitech ergo MX with the thumb trackball and hated it (nothing wrong with the device, more I don't like thumb scrolling; 6.5/10).
For me, this trackball mouse is a 9.25 of 10...after the mod. The position of the left and right buttons is in the right place as in most trackballs. The picture of the trackball's shape looked rather strange to me but once I put the palm of my hand on the trackball I found that whoever designed the trackball knew what they were doing. The little area on the left side to support my thumb is perfect and feels great.
The whole thing is a marvel and I'm very happy I purchased it and it is much more affordable than many other cordless trackballs. I've been using trackballs ever since they were invented and I prefer using my finger and sometimes my first two fingers to control the action of the ball. My son prefers to use his thumb to control his trackball so I'm glad that there is a variety of trackballs.
Sadly this one is not reversible for left and right-handed persons. I'm sure that if this trackball was made for left-handed persons they would love this trackball too. I read in the instructions the purpose of those other buttons on the trackball, I set up the dpi and it is still in the same position that I left it in. I don't really understand how dpi fits into this trackball but it's working great for me and I'm not going to fool around with it.
That's it, I'm done. Elecom Deft Pro seems to be the closest in terms of features, size, and ergonomics. The only things missing from this Kensington Orbit Fusion Wireless Trackball (K72363WW) Mouse model are Bluetooth and some additional shortcut buttons, none of which I use for Defense Pro. I got it first and then tried this Kensington. I like the scroll ring on the thumb scroll in Deft Pro.
