Get review:

I just purchased this machine to keep at a summer cabin. I have been sewing my whole life. I have had a Viking and a Pfaff. So, I have been spoiled by really nice machines. After reading a lot of the negative reviews, I worried about this machine, especially since I am so used to my Pfaff. I am glad I gave this one a chance. While I haven't done too much on it yet, it has been terrific right out of the box. 


I am impressed at how much it can actually do. I am going to be thrilled to have something to keep here for light mending and quilting. I will follow up if things go south, but so far, there is nothing that I see that the negative reviews say. The tension seems to be an issue for some folks, but keeping the tension adjusted on a machine is just part of sewing. I am starting to piece a quilt, and my adult daughter is working on a project as well. 


We just wish Tim Gunn was going to critique our work since it is a project runway machine! Since I'm a beginner, I think this is a very easy machine to learn. I bought it because of my old machine and I struggled when making narrow hems and doing finishing stitches. Both are basic requirements of sewing. The final straw was when I had to do a satin stitch. 



So I switched machines mid-project. Even with learning this machine, I was able to get right to the next step. It’s a very smooth machine and makes great stitches. The adjustable speed is a nice feature too. My new favorite sewing machine! It even has a pedal-free option that works great! I do alterations from my home, so a good machine is a must-have. This machine has so many options that I still haven’t learned them all. 


Not an absolute beginner machine. Brother XR9550PRW Sewing Machine is a lot to this machine and can be a little overwhelming until you learn how to use it. After sewing on several different machines for the last 20 plus years, I had to read the manual, watch the DVD that came with it, and still learn even more when I watch YouTube videos. It’s so cool! And can even do basic embroidery in different sizes! It has a foot-free option the nice for quilting or doing your own embroidery details.


It runs great too! And has a needle threader. Fantastic product especially for such a low price! Recommend this to anyone who doesn’t mind learning. Works perfectly straight out of the box. Loving the speed control slider and the extended work surface. Sews beautifully and is super quiet compared to my previous machine. I would recommend this model for those with at least fundamental sewing experience. 


Loads of stitches and some rudimentary monogramming/letter labeling functionality. Overall, I am very pleased with the model and the seller. This was just what I was looking for and at a very good price. Easy to follow instructions withdrawing to help you out. So much fun to play with the different stitches. love it. Very happy with my new machine. I love my machine. It’s easy to use if you're familiar with a sewing machine, if not, it’ll take time to get comfortable with the settings and all.

Update:

The maximum recommended thickness for the Brother XR9550 is not more than 6mm. If your thickness meets these requirements, you may want to use a larger needle for thickness. I have never tried it but it is a powerful machine so it should be done with the right needle.
