This machine is well made and has features and hoop sizes equal to much pricier machines. Because it is a dedicated embroidery machine it excels at embroidery. Like any machine, it has its own quirks but so do the pricier machines. The quirks are easy to live with and if it is more reliable than our previous pricier machine, it will be a win-win situation! Very easy to use. 

Youtube has lots of videos to help you if you get stuck Stitches very well and has a large window to use when combining patterns. Comes with a video CD to show up close all the features. The manual is excellent. I would recommend this machine to anyone looking for a stand-alone embroidery machine. I bought my Janome 500e from a dealer, i"ve had my machine for over 2 1/2 years with no problems other than user error.

 

Love the big hoops, even though they are an odd size. It comes with an Embroidery Editor that's for a Windows computer which I didn't have. But I upgraded from another embroidery machine and already had a program to use. The Janome 500e Embroidery Machine is very user-friendly and I would definitely buy this machine again.

Update:

You can bring other embroidery designs into the machine via a USB port. The machine only reads embroidery files (.jef) so if you have your art digitized, then yes, you can stitch it out.
